Hosting Guests How To’s

As COVID-19 restrictions begin to ease and people start feeling more comfortable to travel, many community associations are welcoming back family and friends to their homes this holiday season. With Christmas a few weeks away, it’s the perfect time to revisit community rules related to parking, noise, and extended stays to ensure hosts are happy and guests feel welcomed.

Parking

The holiday season brings friends and families together, which means extra cars will need to be parked around a community. Associations usually have full authority to make rules and regulations related to temporary, short-term parking. The board can prohibit parking anywhere that blocks a sidewalk, an emergency vehicle’s access, or another driver’s view. They can also restrict parking on lawns or in front of a fire hydrant.

To be safe, residents’ hosting guests should check the rules on visitor parking, including where they can park (e.g., an overflow lot, if the association has one) and the kind of parking passes that may be needed.

Noise

Celebrating the holiday season means that noise it inevitable, and residents in a condominium are no exception. It can become a nuisance if it stretches past midnight, or it it causes the walls and floors in neighbors’ homes to constantly resound.

If you’re hosting a holiday party, you can give your neighbors a heads up of how many guests you’re expecting and how long you anticipate the gathering to last. Be considerate of the amount of noise coming out of the music speakers, television, or pets. The association’s governing documents can provide guidelines for hosting parties and establish a time for quiet hours.

Overnight Guests

It wouldn’t be the holidays without close friends or relatives staying overnight – or a few days longer than expected. Depending on how long your guests are staying, the association may need to be informed. There are typically rules for both short-term and long-term guests.

These pointers can be good to review during the midst of the holiday season, as they help set expectations while preparing for the unexpected. Wherever you may be this season, we hope you have a safe and happy holidays from Ardent Residential!
